The principle 5 rules are as follows:

1. Competitors must circumnavigate the globe and cross all meridians.

2. Competitors may choose any route, but must complete a minimum distance of 14,000 miles. This is equal to the length of the 52nd parallel, which was the basis for Phileas Fogg's wager.

3. Competitors must solely use transportation that produces zero harmful emissions (technology must be approved by Geen Riband).

4. Competitors must use a minimum of two different forms of transport. The intent is to promote multiple forms of transportation and a minimum distance of 10% of the journey must be completed by sea or air.

5. Competitors must maintain an auditable log of the journey that is to be be presented to the trustees on completion.
