We draw our inspiration from Jules Verne, whose 19th
century scientific novels prophesised that water would one day be
converted into energy. Essentially, the hydrogen fuel cell that is
being adopted by leading automotive manufactures does just that.
In his book, Around
the World in 80 Days, Phileas Fogg, accepts a wager that he could
circumnavigate the globe in 80 days to prove that science had made
the world is a smaller place. Our challenge brings this story up to
date; as we challenge competitors to circumnavigate the globe using
only environmentally friendly transportation to prove the world can
become a cleaner place.
In the same way transportation companies of the past competitively
competed for the fastest Atlantic crossings to permit their ocean
liners to fly the Blue Riband — we will create the same competitive
environment for transportation companies of the future by awarding
our Green Riband for the fastest circumnavigation of the globe using
environmentally friendly transportation.
